If Mr Rathbone is correct, and the engine did explode the PR folks at International Aero Engines will have a little 'splainin to do.. Their product brochure specifically states the V2500 engine does not explode under normal circumstances.

In fairness, I don't think any engine explodes under normal circumstances. Is the guarantee that it won't come apart or ignite if it suffers a failure or injests something?

No, it was a tongue-in-cheek response by me. An uncontained failure is rare, and usually precipitated by something getting sucked in like a bird (or several birds).

It seems to me that Pratt, Rolls-Royce, MTU and Japanese Aero seemed to always have product that had "Not exploding" as a key feature.

Not sure if that was set aside during the collaboration on the V2500 series.

Very possibly could have been overlooked by Rolls-Royce on one particular bad day.. Just ask the folks at Qantas.
